Ahn Changho (Dosan)

An Chang-ho (1878–1938), widely known by his pen name Dosan, was an independence activist and educator who became a leading figure of the patriotic enlightenment movement during Japanese colonial rule. He founded the secret society Sinminhoe and the youth cultivation group Heungsadan, working to build the nation's strength through education and the fostering of practical capability. This self-strengthening movement left an important intellectual current within the Korean independence struggle.
