Bak Chajeong

Park Cha-jung (1910-1944) was a Korean independence activist during the Japanese colonial period, who entered the anti-Japanese movement through her work in the Geunuhoe, a nationwide women's organization. After marrying Kim Won-bong, leader of the Heroic Corps (Uiyeoldan), she served as commander of the Women's Service Corps of the Korean Volunteers Army, leading women's armed resistance within a movement that was largely dominated by men. She is remembered as a woman who stood at the front line of the armed struggle for independence.
