Bak Yeonghyo

Park Yeong-hyo (1861–1939) was a late-Joseon official and politician who, alongside figures such as Kim Ok-gyun, helped lead the radical enlightenment faction that pushed for reform. He took a leading part in the 1884 Gapsin Coup in pursuit of modernizing change and is traditionally credited with designing Korea's first Taegukgi flag. His later shift toward pro-Japanese collaboration, however, has left his legacy the subject of ongoing debate.
