Choe Yongsin

Choi Yong-sin (1909–1935) was a rural enlightenment activist and independence campaigner during Korea's colonial period who devoted herself to farming communities that lacked access to education. She lived and worked in Sari, Banwol-myeon, Suwon-gun (present-day Bono-dong, Ansan), where she taught and worked to uplift local farmers. Her life became the basis for Chae Yeong-sin, the heroine of Shim Hun's celebrated novel "Sangnoksu" (The Evergreen), making her an enduring symbol of the rural enlightenment movement.
