Choe Wu (Choe Yi)

Choe U (later renamed Choe Yi) was the second ruler of the Choe military regime, succeeding his father Choe Chungheon. To resist the Mongol invasions, he moved the capital to Ganghwa Island and led the fight against them, while consolidating his power through the Jeongbang, which handled personnel administration, and the Sambyeolcho elite military units. He also spearheaded the creation of the Tripitaka Koreana, carved in the hope of repelling foreign invaders through the power of the Buddha.
