Choe Yeong

Choe Yeong (崔瑩, 1316–1388) was a leading general and statesman of the late Goryeo period. He repeatedly repelled the Red Turban invaders from the north and the Japanese pirates who raided the coast, and during the transition from the Yuan to the Ming he pushed for a campaign to conquer Liaodong. He fell from power and was executed after Yi Seong-gye turned his army back at Wihwa Island, and he remains a figure who symbolizes the end of the Goryeo dynasty.
