King Danjong

Danjong was the sixth king of Joseon, ascending the throne in 1452 at just twelve years of age. In 1455 he was forced to yield the throne after a coup led by his uncle Sejo, and was later banished to Yeongwol in Gangwon Province, where he was put to death. The tragic fate of this boy king, sacrificed amid a struggle for power, stands as a symbol of the political turmoil surrounding royal authority in early Joseon.
