Gang Gamchan

Gang Gam-chan (948-1031) was a civil official of the Goryeo dynasty, with his family seat in Geumju. In 1019 he led the Goryeo army to a decisive victory at the Battle of Gwiju, repelling a major Khitan invasion. Though he came from a scholar-official background, he took command in a national crisis, and this victory helped bring the long war with the Khitan to a close and stabilize Goryeo.
