Empress Gi

奇皇后Empress

1315~?

Empress Gi (1315–1369) began as a Goryeo tribute woman sent to the Yuan dynasty and rose to become the third principal empress of the Yuan emperor Toghon Temür. Her ancestral home was Haengju, her Mongol name was Öljei Qutuq, and her posthumous title was Empress Bohyeon Sukseong. After her elevation, her Gi clan in Goryeo gained great influence, placing her at the center of the era's disputes over pro-Yuan power in Goryeo politics.
