Gwanchang

Gwanchang was a hwarang of Silla, one of the elite young warriors of the era when the Three Kingdoms were locked in wars of unification. In 660 he took part in the Battle of Hwangsanbeol against Baekje and fell in combat at just sixteen, and his death is said to have greatly stirred the morale of the Silla army. His story of giving his life for his country came to be long remembered as a leading example of the hwarang spirit.
