Gwon Yul
權慄General1537~1599
Gwon Yul (1537-1599) was a scholar-official and military commander of mid-Joseon Korea, and one of the leading figures who led Korean forces during the Imjin War against the Japanese invasions. In 1593 he directed the Battle of Haengju, repelling a large-scale Japanese assault on Haengju Fortress and winning a decisive victory, after which he rose to Dowonsu, the supreme commander of the Joseon army. Honored with the posthumous title Chungjang, he is remembered as a general who helped turn the tide of the war.
