Gyeonhwon

Gyeon Hwon (867–936) was a military commander in the final years of Silla and the founding king of Later Baekje. In 900 he established Later Baekje with its capital at Wansan-ju (present-day Jeonju), building a powerful base in the old Baekje region during the Later Three Kingdoms period. Late in life, amid a struggle over succession, he was confined by his son Sin-geom and later surrendered to Goryeo, shaping the course of the peninsula's reunification.
