Hong Gyeongnae
洪景來Uprising Leader1771~1812
Hong Gyeong-nae was the leader of a peasant rebel army that rose up in Pyongan Province during the reign of King Sunjo of Joseon. In 1811 he led an uprising against the long-standing regional discrimination faced by the people of Pyongan, an event that came to be known as the Hong Gyeong-nae Rebellion. It is remembered as a landmark episode that exposed the social contradictions and regional inequality of late Joseon society.
