Ichadon

Ichadon was a close official who served King Beopheung of Silla in the early sixth century, and is regarded as the first Buddhist martyr in Korean history. At the time, the newly introduced Buddhism was in conflict with Silla's native beliefs, and Ichadon gave his own life to support the king's wish to embrace the faith. His martyrdom became the turning point that led Silla to officially recognize Buddhism, and he is remembered as a figure symbolizing the religion's arrival in the kingdom.
