Lee Jung-seob (1916-1956), who went by the art name Daehyang, was a leading modern Korean painter in the Western style, living through the Japanese colonial period and the early years of the Republic of Korea. Amid turbulent times, he captured the emotions of the Korean people on canvas with a bold, expressive touch, and is especially known for his powerful, dynamic 'Ox' series. His work is regarded as one of the defining achievements of modern Korean art.
