Im Byeongchan

Im Byeong-chan (1851–1916) was a righteous-army commander of the late Joseon period and a disciple of Choe Ik-hyeon, alongside whom he raised a volunteer army against the 1905 Eulsa Treaty. In 1912 he received a secret order from Emperor Gojong and organized the Independence Righteous Army Command, an underground resistance group, in an effort to restore national sovereignty. Later arrested by the Japanese, he refused to yield and died by hunger strike in exile.
