Ilyeon (1206–1289) was a Buddhist monk and scholar active during the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo, also known by the honorific title Bogak-guksa. The Samguk Yusa, which he compiled, records ancient founding legends such as the Dangun myth along with hyangga (native Korean poems), making it an indispensable source for understanding early Korean history, culture, and religious belief.
