Yi Sangseol

Yi Sang-seol (1870–1917) was a civil official of the Korean Empire and an independence activist during the Japanese colonial period. Having served in posts such as Chamchan of the State Council, he was dispatched in 1907 as chief envoy to the Hague Peace Conference to make the injustice of the Eulsa Treaty known to the international community. He later went into exile in the Russian Maritime Province, where he organized the Kwoneophoe society and led the establishment of the Korean Restoration Army Government, laying the groundwork for the independence movement abroad.
