Yi Su-gwang

Yi Su-gwang (pen name Jibong) was a scholar and official of the mid-Joseon period. He compiled the Jibong yuseol, regarded as Korea's first encyclopedia-style work, through which he introduced Western learning and Catholicism to the country. Having also served as a diplomat and gathered wide-ranging knowledge, he is remembered as a figure who helped open the way for the later Silhak (practical learning) movement of Joseon.
