Jajang

慈藏Buddhist Monk

590~658

Jajang (590–658) was a monk of Silla who, though born into the jingol aristocracy, took vows and became renowned as a vinaya master well versed in monastic discipline. Under Queen Seondeok he rose to the office of daeguktong, overseeing the entire monastic order; he proposed building the nine-story wooden pagoda of Hwangnyongsa and founded Tongdosa Temple, establishing the precepts that laid the foundation of Silla Buddhism.
