Jeon Bongjun (Nokdu Janggun)

Jeon Bong-jun (1855–1895) was a leader of the Donghak peasant movement in late Joseon Korea, nicknamed the "Green Pea General" (Nokdu Janggun) for his small stature. In 1894 he rose against the exploitation and corruption of local officials and led the Donghak Peasant Revolution, but after his forces were defeated by government and Japanese troops at the Battle of Ugeumchi, he was captured and executed the following year. His uprising is regarded as a pivotal event in modern Korean history, expressing demands for social reform and resistance to foreign intervention.
