Jeong Dojeon

Jeong Do-jeon (1342-1398), also known by his pen name Sambong, was a scholar-official of the late Goryeo and early Joseon period. Criticizing the corruption of the entrenched aristocracy and the Buddhism tied to it, he helped found the Joseon dynasty as a centralized bureaucratic state grounded in Neo-Confucian ideals. He advanced a theory of government centered on the prime minister and led the design of the Hanyang capital and Gyeongbokgung Palace, but was killed by Yi Bang-won's faction during the First Strife of Princes in 1398.
