King Jeongjong of Joseon

Jeongjong (1357-1419) was the second king of Joseon (reigned 1398-1400) and a son of the dynasty's founder, Taejo Yi Seong-gye, having earlier served as a military official in the final years of Goryeo. He came to the throne in the immediate aftermath of the First Strife of Princes and moved the capital back from Hanyang to Gaegyeong during his reign. He later abdicated in favor of his younger brother, who became King Taejong, and stepped back as retired king, bridging the turbulent early years of the new dynasty.
