Jeong Seon (Gyeomjae)

Jeong Seon (1676–1759) was a painter of the late Joseon period, known by the pen name Gyeomjae. Rather than following the idealized, Chinese-style landscape conventions of his time, he pioneered "true-view" landscape painting (jingyeong sansu), depicting the actual scenery of the Korean land as he observed it firsthand. Recommended by Kim Chang-jip, he became a court painter at the Dohwaseo (royal bureau of painting) and held official posts. His best-known works include "Inwangjesaekdo," showing Mount Inwang after rain, and "Geumgangjeondo," a panoramic view of Mount Geumgang.
