Ju Sigyeong

Ju Si-gyeong (1876–1914) was a Korean linguist who studied the Korean language and its Hangul script scientifically during the late Joseon enlightenment period. He worked to systematize Korean grammar and to standardize Hangul spelling, and is remembered for helping to spread the very name "Hangul" for the Korean alphabet. By laying the groundwork for modern Korean-language studies, he is often called the father of the modernization of Hangul.
