Kim Daegeon

金大建Catholic Priest

1821~1846

Kim Dae-geon (1821–1846), baptized Andrew, was the first Korean-born Roman Catholic priest. He ministered during a period of anti-Catholic persecution in Joseon and was martyred in the Byeong-o Persecution of 1846. A symbolic figure in the early history of the Korean Catholic Church, he was named a UNESCO Commemorated Personality in 2021.
