Kim Hongdo (Danwon)

Kim Hong-do (c. 1745–1806), known by his pen name Danwon, was one of the leading painters of the late Joseon period. Although he worked skillfully across many genres including landscape, figure, and bird-and-flower painting, he is best remembered for his genre scenes that vividly captured everyday commoner life, such as wrestling matches and village schools. He is regarded as a representative painter of the cultural revival under King Jeongjo.
