Kim Siseup

Kim Si-seup (1435-1493) was a scholar and writer of the early Joseon period, and one of the "Six Loyal Subjects" who refused to serve in office after King Sejo seized the throne from the young King Danjong. He wrote the Geumo Sinhwa, regarded as Korea's first work of fiction in classical Chinese, opening a new path for Korean narrative literature. Living as a Buddhist monk who wandered the country while devoting himself to learning and writing, he is remembered as a model of the scholar who kept faith with his principles.
