Maeng Saseong

Maeng Sa-seong was a civil official and Confucian scholar active in the late Goryeo and early Joseon periods, who rose to the post of Left State Councillor (Jwauijeong) during the reign of King Sejong and helped guide state affairs. He is remembered as a leading example of the "cheongbaengni," the incorruptible officials prized for their integrity, and, being well versed in music, he devoted himself to organizing Korean court and native music (hyangak). His career is passed down as a symbol of the civil governance and integrity of the early Joseon era.
