Min Jongsik

Min Jong-sik (1861-1917) was a righteous army commander of the late Joseon period. Of the Yeoheung Min clan, he was a relative by marriage of Queen Myeongseong. After the 1905 Eulsa Treaty threatened Korea's sovereignty, he raised a volunteer army and led the battle to capture Hongju Fortress in Chungcheong Province. His uprising is remembered as one of the leading armed struggles of the Eulsa righteous armies that resisted Japanese domination.
