King Mun of Balhae (Dae Heummu)

King Mun (personal name Dae Heummu), who took the throne in 737, was the third ruler of Balhae and a son of King Mu. He moved the capital to Sanggyeong and adopted the institutions and culture of Tang China to reorganize the state, while maintaining active exchanges with Japan, laying the groundwork for Balhae's era of prosperity. By using his own reign-era names, Daeheung and Boryeok, he asserted Balhae's independence, and he remained on the throne for a long reign until 793.
