King Muryeong
武寧王King462~523
King Muryeong (whose given name was Sama) was the 25th ruler of Baekje, credited with restoring a kingdom that had been thrown into crisis by pressure from Goguryeo. He strengthened royal authority and tightened control over the provinces by dispatching members of the royal family to the twenty-two strategic districts known as the damno, while reviving Baekje's international standing through active exchange with the Southern Dynasties of China and with Wa (Japan). His tomb, discovered intact in modern times, survives as a precious heritage that vividly conveys his life and the culture of Baekje.
