King Taejong Muyeol, personal name Kim Chun-chu (603–661), was the 29th ruler of Silla (reigned 654–661) and had already made his name as a skilled diplomat before taking the throne. He forged the Silla–Tang alliance and brought down Baekje in 660, laying the groundwork for Silla's unification of the Three Kingdoms. His reliance on Tang military power to achieve this, however, remains a point of debate among later generations.
