Na Cheol

羅喆Religious Leader

1863~1916

Na Cheol (羅喆, born Na Du-yeong, 1863–1916) was a former late-Joseon official who became a religious leader and anti-Japanese independence activist, founding the religion of Daejonggyo on the basis of the worship of Dangun. By spreading a faith that treated Dangun as the root of the Korean people, he helped provide a spiritual foundation that sustained the national spirit during the Japanese colonial period. The Daejonggyo he established later served as an ideological and organizational base for the independence movement in Manchuria.
