Na Ungyu

Na Un-gyu (1902-1937) was a filmmaker and independence activist during Korea's Japanese colonial period, and is regarded as a pioneer of Korean cinema. In 1926 he created and starred in the nationalist film "Arirang," bringing the suppressed feelings of a colonized people to the screen. Known by the pen name Chunsa, he helped lay the artistic and national foundations of early Korean film.
