Ryu Seongryong

Ryu Seong-ryong (1542-1607), whose pen name was Seoae, was a civil official and scholar of the mid-Joseon period. During the Japanese invasions (Imjin War) he served as chief state councilor, overseeing the effort to overcome the national crisis, and he recommended Yi Sun-sin and Gwon Yul, ensuring that capable commanders were entrusted with leading the war. After the war he wrote the Jingbirok (Book of Corrections), recording his experiences and reflections as a lesson for later generations.
