Crown Prince Sado
思悼世子Crown Prince1735~1762
Crown Prince Sado (思悼世子, 1735–1762) was the second son of King Yeongjo of Joseon and the father of King Jeongjo; he was also known as Crown Prince Jangheon and was later posthumously honored as King Jangjo. Though he was the heir apparent, a bitter conflict with his father, King Yeongjo, led to his death in 1762, when he was confined inside a rice chest until he perished—an event known as the Imo Incident. His tragic death became a defining episode of late Joseon political history and left a deep imprint on the reign of his son, King Jeongjo.
