King Seong

King Seong, the 26th ruler of Baekje, succeeded his father King Muryeong and took the throne in 523. He moved the capital from Ungjin to Sabi (present-day Buyeo) and renamed the kingdom Nambuyeo in an effort to revive Baekje's fortunes. A devoted patron of Buddhism, he transmitted Buddhist statues and scriptures to Japan and helped bring Baekje's culture to a peak, but he was killed in 554 while fighting Silla at the Battle of Gwansanseong.
