King Sukjong

Sukjong was the 19th king of Joseon, ruling for 46 years from 1674 to 1720. He repeatedly carried out sudden reshuffles that swept the ruling political faction out of power, using these shifts to keep his officials in check and strengthen royal authority. He also extended the Daedongbeop tax reform nationwide and put the Sangpyeong Tongbo coin into wide circulation, laying a foundation for the finances and commerce of the later Joseon period.
