Uicheon

Uicheon (1055–1101) was a monk of royal birth, the fourth son of King Munjong of Goryeo, and is also widely known by his posthumous title Daegak Guksa. Advocating the joint cultivation of doctrinal study and meditative practice (gyogwan gyeomsu), he founded the Cheontae (Tiantai) school in Korea, seeking to bring together the Buddhist schools that were divided at the time. He also compiled the Sokjanggyeong, a supplementary collection of Buddhist commentaries gathered from across East Asia, making a major contribution to organizing Goryeo Buddhist literature.
