King Uija

義慈王King

King Uija (義慈王, 599–660) was the 31st and last ruler of Baekje. In his youth he was known for his devotion to family and was called the "Zengzi of the East," and for a time he pressed hard against Silla, capturing the fortress of Daeya. Yet amid the misrule of his later reign, Baekje fell to the allied forces of Silla and Tang in 660, and as he, the royal family, and many of his people were carried off to Luoyang in Tang, the Baekje kingdom that had endured since King Onjo came to an end.
