Ureuk

Ureuk was a musician active in the sixth-century kingdom of Great Gaya. At the command of King Gasil, who had modeled the gayageum (a zither) on the Chinese zheng, he composed twelve pieces for the instrument. He later submitted to King Jinheung of Silla and transmitted the music of Gaya to Silla, so that the gayageum and its repertoire became an enduring root of Korean music. He is counted, alongside Wang San-ak of Goguryeo and Bak Yeon of Joseon, as one of Korea's three great masters of music.
