King Yeongjo

英祖King

1694~1776

Yeongjo was the 21st king of Joseon, reigning from 1724 to 1776. He pursued the Tangpyeong policy to ease factional strife among rival political groups, and promoted policies for the people's welfare, including the Gyunyeok Act, which lightened the military-service burden on commoners, and the dredging of the Cheonggyecheon stream to prevent flooding. He is also remembered for the Imo Incident, in which his son, Crown Prince Sado, was put to death.
