Yeo Unhyeong

Yeo Un-hyeong (1886–1947), also known by his pen name Mongyang, was an independence activist and politician during the Japanese colonial period. Moved by a speech of An Chang-ho in 1907, he devoted himself to the independence movement. In August 1945, right after liberation, he led the Committee for the Preparation of Korean Independence in an effort to lay the foundations of a new nation. Amid the turbulent post-liberation politics he worked to promote left-right cooperation and prevent national division, but his aims were cut short by his assassination in 1947.
