Yi Bongchang

Lee Bong-chang (1900-1932) was a merchant and independence activist during Japan's colonial rule over Korea. After living as a laborer and trader in Japan, he made his way to Shanghai and joined the Korean Patriotic Corps under the Korean Provisional Government. In 1932 he threw a bomb at the Japanese emperor's carriage in Tokyo, an act that reinvigorated the independence movement and drew international attention to the Provisional Government's armed resistance against Japan.
