Yi Yuksa

Yi Yuk-sa (1904-1944) was a poet and independence activist during Korea's Japanese colonial period. Through resistance poems such as "Gwangya" (The Wilderness) and "Cheongpodo" (Green Grapes), he expressed an unbreakable will and a longing for liberation amid the realities of colonial rule. He also joined the Uiyeoldan, an armed independence organization, taking part in the resistance directly, and ultimately died in prison in Beijing.
