Yu Gwan-sun

Yu Gwan-sun (1902–1920) was a Korean independence activist during the Japanese colonial period. She took part in the March First Movement of 1919 and helped lead a mass independence demonstration at the Aunae marketplace in her home region. Arrested by Japanese police, she was imprisoned at Seodaemun Prison, where she refused to give in despite brutal torture and died in custody at the age of eighteen. She is widely remembered as a symbol of the March First Movement and Korea's struggle for independence.
