Yun Dongju

Yun Dong-ju (1917–1945) was a poet and independence activist born in the Korean settlement of Myeongdong village in North Gando during the Japanese colonial period. He is remembered for lyrical poems such as "Prologue" and "Counting the Stars at Night," which weave pure emotion together with the pain of his era and an intellectual's sense of shame, giving quiet voice to resistance under colonial rule. In 1945, shortly before Korea's liberation, he died at the age of twenty-seven in a prison in Fukuoka, Japan.
