Yun Gwan

Yun Gwan (1040-1111) was a civil official and general of the mid-Goryeo period who led campaigns against the Jurchen during the reigns of Kings Sukjong and Yejong. He organized the Byeolmuban, a special army built around cavalry, to strengthen the state's military, and with it he drove out the Jurchen and built the Nine Fortresses in the northeast, advancing Goryeo's northward expansion policy. For these achievements he was enfeoffed as the Baron of Papyeong and is remembered as a founding figure of the Papyeong Yun clan.
