Yun Huisun

Yun Hui-sun (1860-1935) was a Korean independence activist active during the late Joseon period and the Japanese colonial era, and is regarded as Korea's first female leader of the righteous armies (uibyeong). She composed songs such as the "Ansaram Uibyeongga" (Righteous Army Song for Women) to encourage women to join the resistance and to rally the will to fight against Japan. She later went into exile in Manchuria, where she continued the independence movement—significant for taking a leading role in the anti-Japanese struggle at a time when women's public roles were sharply limited.
